QUESTION   Are there any files File Protection can't back up?

ANSWER  Almost all files can be backed up, with very few exceptions.

The only files File Protection will not back up are:

  • Hidden files
  • Files with the "System" attribute
  • Files with emoticons in the filename

IMPORTANT  Certain files types have low availability due to the nature of the file; in particular, databases and accounting software. As these files types are constantly being changed, they can often fail to back up successfully even if they support VSS (refer to What is VSS?). For these files types, we recommend that you create a scheduled, automated snapshot (backup) within the software itself, then use File Protection to back up the snapshot.

For more information about backups in general, refer to How Backups Work.
